Sonnet #2: A Hero—I Heard You Were Searching For
A hero— I heard you were searching for,
Someone of shining armor and pure heart,
No tainted soul, you needed someone more,
With hopeful eyes that damned you from the start.
I shan’t be cruel and tell you that I know
Who you are seeking, nor what you should find.
Once long ago, in sunset’s afterglow,
I knew a man, a spirit gray and kind.
A hero as his name, he sought to save
A life that lost its beauty, or so told.
My love, he dove in raging tidal waves,
Forgetting man’s life mortals in the cold.
No knight here anymore, no one to be,
For all my broken heroes drowned at sea.
